- Women interest free loans issue sparks KTR vs Bhatti clash.
- Congress says women interest free loans increased to 20 lakh.
- Women interest free loans reach 57 thousand crore in two years.
A heated exchange unfolded in the Assembly over women interest free loans, with BRS leader KTR questioning the government’s claims and ministers Bhatti and Seethakka strongly defending their record.
Responding to KTR’s remarks during the discussion on the Governor speech, the ministers criticized him for raising unrelated issues and attempting to politicize the debate. They also objected to his reference to comments made by a foreign contestant during an international event, stating that such matters should not be brought into the Assembly.
The ministers highlighted that the Congress government has significantly expanded women interest free loans, increasing the limit up to 20 lakh for women self help groups. They pointed out that under the previous BRS government, loans were limited to 5 lakh, while the current administration has taken a more ambitious approach.
According to the government, around 57 thousand crore has already been disbursed as women interest free loans within two years. Ministers emphasized that this reflects a strong commitment to empowering women financially and supporting their economic independence.
They further stated that various initiatives such as free bus travel and financial schemes have helped improve household incomes for women across the state. The government claimed that these steps have restored dignity and confidence among women beneficiaries.
Countering BRS claims, the ministers argued that although the previous government mentioned higher total loan figures, the actual benefit per group remained limited. In contrast, the current government has focused on increasing both the loan amount and access.
Officials also noted that repayment rates have reached nearly 98 percent, indicating responsible usage of funds by women groups. Through schemes like Stree Nidhi and Stree Shakti, women are moving towards self reliance and entrepreneurship.
The debate reflects the ongoing political battle between the ruling Congress and opposition BRS, with women interest free loans becoming a key point of contention in Telangana politics.
