The special court in Rajamahendravaram has cancelled the bail earlier granted to YSRCP MLC Anantha Babu in the sensational driver murder case, dealing a major setback to the senior political leader.

The court reportedly took serious note of allegations that Anantha Babu attempted to influence witnesses while out on bail. According to the complaint filed by victims and witnesses, the MLC allegedly threatened several individuals connected to the case and warned them against giving statements against him during the trial.

Police officials stated that four witnesses accused Anantha Babu of trying to lure them and allegedly threatening them with dire consequences if they failed to support him in court. Based on these complaints, Sarpavaram police in Kakinada district arrested the YSRCP leader on April 24.

Currently, Anantha Babu is lodged in Rajamahendravaram Central Jail as a remand prisoner. The court observed that threatening witnesses while being on bail in a murder case is a serious violation and cannot be ignored.

After examining the material evidence presented before it, the special court decided to revoke the bail previously granted by the Supreme Court. The prosecution argued that the accused had misused the liberty provided to him and attempted to interfere with the legal process.

Special Public Prosecutor Muppalla Subbarao represented the police during the hearing and strongly argued for cancellation of bail. The court accepted the prosecution’s submissions and ruled in favour of revoking the relief granted to the MLC.

With the latest order, Anantha Babu will remain in jail until the completion of the murder case trial. The court also announced that regular hearings in the murder case of driver Veezhi Subramanyam will begin from the 20th of this month.

The case has remained politically sensitive since the beginning and continues to attract attention across Andhra Pradesh due to the serious allegations surrounding the murder and subsequent developments during the investigation.
