Telangana villages are emerging as a national model in rural governance, earning widespread recognition for effective administration and people driven development. The long held belief that villages form the backbone of the nation is finding new meaning through the state consistent performance at the grassroots level.
In a remarkable achievement, Telangana panchayats won awards in eight out of nine categories under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar announced by the Union government for 2023. This rare distinction has placed the state at the top nationally and highlighted its focus on transparency participation and inclusive growth.
According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, four villages secured first place in different categories and received cash awards of one crore rupees each. Gauthampur in Kothagudem district was recognised as a model healthy panchayat. Nellutla in Jangaon district topped the water conservation category. Kongatpally in Mahabubnagar district excelled in social security while Ipur in Suryapet district was honoured as a women friendly panchayat.
Telangana success continued with strong performances in other categories as well. Mandoddi in Gadwal district and Cheemaldari in Vikarabad district secured second positions in poverty eradication and good governance categories and received seventy five lakh rupees each. Sultanpur in Peddapalli district and Gambhiraopet in Rajanna Sircilla district earned third place awards for clean and green initiatives and infrastructure development.
The momentum did not stop there. In 2024 Chillapalli village and in 2025 Mal village of Rangareddy district achieved top honours in special categories reinforcing the state consistent progress in rural development.
Officials say these achievements reflect a long term commitment to decentralised governance where citizens actively participate in decision making. With sustained focus on basic services social welfare and environmental protection Telangana villages continue to demonstrate how empowered panchayats can lead the path toward sustainable and inclusive growth for the country.
