The Telangana government is preparing a major plan to improve road infrastructure across the state by building ring roads in every district. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to move forward with this project as part of a broader effort to modernize the transport network and improve connectivity.
Officials say the main goal of the ring roads in Telangana is to reduce traffic congestion in district headquarters and speed up the movement of goods and vehicles. Heavy transport vehicles will no longer need to pass through busy town centers because the ring roads will connect directly to nearby national highways.
To make the network more accessible the government has also proposed developing radial roads. These roads will link district centers directly to the outer ring roads so that people and vehicles can quickly access the highway network without entering crowded urban streets.
The state government is designing the road system so that people travelling from Hyderabad can reach different regions of Telangana within a predictable travel time. By improving connectivity between districts and highways the government hopes to encourage economic activity and balanced development across the state.
Funding the large infrastructure project without increasing financial pressure on the government is also part of the plan. The Road Development Corporation will be strengthened and nearly four hundred acres of land currently owned by the Roads and Buildings department will be transferred to the corporation. These assets will help generate funds through bonds to support road construction.
The government is also considering allocating two percent of the fuel sales cess directly to the Road Development Corporation. Officials estimate that this move could generate around four hundred crore rupees in revenue every month which can be used to build and maintain road infrastructure.
Along with expanding roads the state government is also focusing on long term environmental goals. The Chief Minister has instructed all government departments to purchase only electric vehicles in the future and even vehicles hired on rent should preferably be electric.
Authorities are also planning to digitize all operations in the transport department to reduce corruption and improve transparency. According to the Road Sector Policy Vision 2047 the government aims to develop all roads in Telangana according to international standards and create a modern transport network that supports growth in the coming decades.
