A political debate has intensified in Telangana after Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy attended a breakfast meeting with leaders from the BJP and its allies in New Delhi. The meeting, though described as informal, has drawn sharp reactions from the opposition.
The gathering was hosted by Union minister Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, who clarified that it was part of routine outreach involving Members of Parliament from Telugu states. He stated that leaders from various parties, including BJP, TDP, and Congress, were invited, and there was no specific political agenda behind the interaction.
According to Varma, the invitation extended to Revanth Reddy was based on personal acquaintance, and the meeting was simply a casual interaction where leaders sat together for breakfast. He emphasized that no political discussions or decisions were intended during the gathering.
However, the timing of the meeting, coming soon after the women reservation bill failed to pass in Parliament, has led to criticism from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Senior leader T Harish Rao questioned the Congress party’s position, suggesting that such interactions raise doubts about its stance against the BJP.
BRS leaders have also raised concerns regarding broader issues such as delimitation and representation, arguing that linking women reservation to delimitation could delay its implementation. KT Rama Rao reiterated that southern states may face disadvantages if seat allocation is based purely on population metrics.
The controversy highlights the growing political tensions in Telangana, with parties using the development to question each other’s consistency and approach on key national issues.
