Hyderabad Faces Surge in Water Tanker Demand During Summer

Rising summer temperatures and falling groundwater levels have sharply increased water tanker bookings across Hyderabad, forcing authorities to extend supply operations late into the night in several areas.

  • Water Board increases tanker supply across city areas
  • Thousands of tanker trips being delivered daily

The summer heat is beginning to put visible pressure on Hyderabad’s water supply system, with several parts of the city witnessing a sharp rise in demand for water tankers. Officials say bookings have increased significantly over the last few days as groundwater levels continue to decline in many residential areas.

To handle the growing pressure, the Water Board has changed its supply strategy by dividing tanker services between residential and commercial requirements. During daytime hours, priority is being given to household water supply, while commercial deliveries are being handled mostly during the night.

Authorities revealed that more than 11,000 tanker trips are currently being operated every day across Hyderabad. In some localities, water tankers are reportedly working until midnight to meet increasing demand from residents struggling with water shortages.

Several areas in the city have seen a major jump in bookings, including Kukatpally, Nizampet, Ameerpet, SR Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Kondapur, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Hafeezpet, Manikonda and Shaikpet. Officials said nearly 30 locations within Greater Hyderabad are currently experiencing heavy demand for tanker services.

The Water Board is also closely monitoring bookings through an online tracking system connected to 84 filling stations across the city. A digital dashboard has been introduced to identify pending bookings and monitor tanker movement in real time.

According to officials, different colour indicators have been assigned based on the number of pending requests at each filling station. This system helps authorities quickly identify areas facing delays and arrange additional tankers wherever required.

Efforts are also being made to ensure that customers receive tanker deliveries within 24 hours of booking. Additional filling stations have been activated in high demand zones, while some stations are functioning late into the night to prevent backlog issues.

Officials said the situation is being reviewed daily to avoid disruption in water supply during the peak summer season. The administration is focusing on faster delivery, better monitoring and immediate response in areas where bookings continue to rise rapidly.
