- Delimitation debate demands all party discussion
The delimitation debate has taken center stage in national politics after Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy raised strong concerns over the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats.
In a detailed message addressed to Narendra Modi, he stated that while there is broad support for the women reservation bill, it should not be linked with the expansion of parliamentary seats.
He argued that increasing Lok Sabha seats purely based on population could lead to unfair disadvantages for southern and smaller states. According to him, such a move may disturb the balance of federal structure and weaken the spirit of cooperative governance.
Highlighting the distinction between the two issues, he pointed out that women reservation and seat delimitation are separate matters and should be treated independently. He suggested that implementing reservations in legislative assemblies would be widely welcomed across the country.
The Chief Minister stressed that decisions of such national importance should not be taken unilaterally. Instead, he called for an immediate all party meeting to ensure broader consultation and consensus.
His remarks have added momentum to the ongoing delimitation debate, with several political observers noting that the issue could have long term implications for representation and regional balance in India.
As discussions continue, the demand for inclusive dialogue is growing louder, reflecting the sensitivity and significance of the delimitation debate across different regions of the country.
