The Telangana government is preparing to roll out a new welfare initiative for children enrolled in Anganwadi centres, marking another step toward improving early childhood nutrition. As part of efforts to strengthen the Anganwadi system, the state plans to introduce a breakfast program for young children attending these centres.

Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka announced that the scheme will begin on a pilot basis in select districts before being expanded across the state from the next financial year. The initiative is aimed at ensuring balanced nutrition for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, a priority area for the Revanth Reddy government.

During a review meeting at the Women and Child Welfare Department office, the minister assessed existing schemes, expenditure patterns, and future plans ahead of the state budget scheduled for March 20. Officials were instructed to prepare proposals to scale up successful nutrition programs, especially in remote and agency areas where anemia among adolescent girls remains a concern.

The government has already sanctioned buildings for 2,199 new Anganwadi centres, though only about 500 have been completed so far. Authorities were directed to accelerate construction and ensure all centres provide nutritious food, preschool education, and a clean environment under the Sakshyam Anganwadi initiative. A pilot program supplying milk to children is currently underway in Mulugu district.

The minister also stressed the importance of special drives to eliminate child marriages and reiterated the government’s goal of making Telangana a malnutrition free and child marriage free state. Senior officials from various departments participated in the review, discussing coordinated action for effective implementation.
