- Rising summer temperatures prompted Telangana to increase heatstroke death compensation.
With summer temperatures rising rapidly across Telangana the state government has taken a significant step to support families affected by heat related deaths. The government has decided to increase the compensation provided to families of people who die due to heatstroke.
Earlier the government used to provide a compensation of fifty thousand rupees to families of heatstroke victims. The Revanth Reddy led government has now increased the assistance to four lakh rupees under the State Disaster Management Authority guidelines.
The decision comes as several districts are already experiencing high temperatures touching nearly thirty nine degrees Celsius in the first week of March. Weather officials have warned that temperatures may rise further in the coming weeks increasing the risk of heat related illnesses.
Authorities said that families seeking heatstroke death compensation must submit proper documents while applying for the assistance. The verification process will involve a three member committee at the mandal level consisting of medical revenue and police officials.
In suspected cases of heatstroke death a postmortem examination will also be required to confirm the cause of death. Only after the verification based on the death certificate and panchanama report will the compensation process be approved.
Health experts are also advising people to take precautions during the summer season as the intensity of heat continues to increase. People are encouraged to avoid going outside during peak afternoon hours unless absolutely necessary.
Doctors recommend wearing light colored clothes and drinking plenty of water or other fluids to stay hydrated. Using caps scarves or umbrellas while stepping outside can also help reduce the risk of heatstroke.
Officials said that anyone experiencing symptoms such as dizziness severe fatigue or excessive sweating should seek medical attention immediately to avoid serious health complications during the extreme summer heat.
