In a major step toward strengthening rural livelihoods, the Telangana government has announced a new solar pump scheme with 100 percent subsidy for tribal farmers. The initiative is designed to improve irrigation access in remote forest regions where electricity supply remains limited.

Presented as part of the 2026 – 27 state budget, the scheme reflects the government’s focus on inclusive agricultural growth. Officials said the program will directly benefit more than two lakh tribal farmers, helping them cultivate their lands more effectively.

The scheme, introduced under a dedicated initiative, aims to bring irrigation facilities to podu lands spread across large areas. By using solar powered pump sets, farmers will be able to access water without depending on conventional electricity sources.

Authorities highlighted that this move will not only support farming activities but also increase income levels among tribal communities. The use of solar energy is expected to reduce costs while promoting environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

The government has already tested the model in select regions through a pilot project, where it reportedly delivered positive results. Based on this experience, plans are now in place to expand the scheme across the state.

Alongside this initiative, the budget has allocated significant funds for agriculture and irrigation sectors, underlining the importance of farming in the state economy. Additional support measures including financial assistance and bonus incentives are also being continued.

Officials believe that combining renewable energy with agriculture will mark a new phase in Telangana’s rural development, offering long term benefits to farmers and strengthening sustainability in the sector.
