Hyderabad is set to take a major step toward becoming a global education destination, with the University of London planning to establish its first offshore campus in India within the city. The move is expected to strengthen the region academic landscape and attract international attention.

The proposed campus will be developed in the Education Zone of the upcoming Future City project. Until the permanent infrastructure is completed, temporary classes are expected to be conducted at the Lake View Guest House in the city, ensuring that academic activities can begin without delay.

Officials indicated that the university is targeting the 2027 28 academic year to commence its programs. The application process with the University Grants Commission is already underway, signaling progress toward regulatory approvals.

Founded in 1836, the University of London is among the oldest and most respected institutions in the United Kingdom. It represents a federation of several prestigious colleges, including globally recognized institutions in business science and medicine, making it a strong addition to Hyderabad education ecosystem.

The initiative aligns with the vision of Telangana leadership to position Hyderabad as an international knowledge hub. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been actively promoting partnerships with global educational institutions to elevate the state academic profile.

Government officials revealed that multiple educational institutions from the United Kingdom have shown interest in setting up campuses in the city. Delegations from reputed schools have also visited Hyderabad, exploring opportunities to expand their presence in the region.

Experts believe that the arrival of such institutions will reduce the need for students to travel abroad for higher education. It is expected to offer access to globally recognized degrees at a lower cost while also enhancing research opportunities within the state.

Hyderabad has already gained global recognition in sectors such as information technology biotechnology and life sciences. The addition of international universities is likely to further strengthen its position as a leading destination for education innovation and research.

With growing infrastructure and policy support, the Future City project is expected to emerge as a vibrant hub for students researchers and global academic collaboration in the coming years.
