- Tourism development planned around Medaram region
- Pilgrim facilities to improve during Medaram Jatara
The central government has turned its attention towards the Medaram Jatara, one of Asia’s largest tribal gatherings, by releasing fresh financial assistance to support arrangements and development works linked to the festival.
An amount of three crore seventy lakh rupees has been sanctioned with the initiative of Union Coal and Mines Minister Kishan Reddy. The funds have been released through the Union Tourism Ministry and the Tribal Affairs Ministry to strengthen facilities for devotees and visitors.
Known as the tribal Kumbh Mela, the Medaram Jatara attracts lakhs of devotees from across Telangana and neighbouring states. The latest funding is expected to strengthen essential services and support better crowd management during the mega event.
Earlier, under the Tribal Circuit tourism project, the Union Tourism Department had sanctioned nearly eighty crore rupees to develop infrastructure across Medaram and surrounding areas. Works were taken up in Mulugu, Laknavaram, Tadwai, Damaravai, Malluru and Bogatha waterfall to boost tourism and connectivity.
Officials say these initiatives are aimed at creating long term tourism value while also improving facilities during the Jatara period. The region has gradually emerged as an important spiritual and eco tourism destination.
Alongside this, the Centre is also spending about one hundred forty crore rupees on the development of the UNESCO recognised Ramappa Temple, located not far from the Medaram region, further strengthening tourism potential in the area.
To facilitate the massive inflow of devotees who arrive to offer jaggery and fulfill vows to the tribal deities, the South Central Railway has announced the operation of thirty special trains during the four days Jatara.
With improved transport facilities and increased funding, authorities expect smoother movement of pilgrims and better crowd regulation this year.
The latest support from the Centre is being viewed as a major boost for preserving tribal traditions while ensuring safety comfort and accessibility for lakhs of devotees attending the historic Medaram Jatara.
